Teej and Hartalika Teej: A Festival of Marital Bliss

Teej and Hartalika Teej are two important Festivals of Bihar celebrated by Hindu women, dedicated to seeking blessings for marital bliss and the well-being of their husbands. These festivals commemorate the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, similar in spirit to Vivah Panchami. The art of Kohbar is also centered around marital bliss.,During Hartalika Teej, women observe a 'nirjala' fast, abstaining from both food and water for 24 hours. They dress in new clothes, adorn themselves with jewelry, and gather to worship idols of Shiva and Parvati. The evening is spent singing folk songs and listening to the 'Teej katha' (story).,The festival is a beautiful display of devotion, faith, and the cultural importance placed on the institution of marriage. It is a time for women to come together, celebrate their bond, and pray for a happy and prosperous married life. Special sweets like Chandrakala are often prepared.
