Janmashtami: Celebrating the Birth of Lord Krishna

Janmashtami, celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna, is a major Hindu festival observed with great devotion in Bihar. Temples dedicated to Krishna are beautifully decorated, and devotees observe a fast until midnight, the time of Krishna's birth. The celebrations are particularly vibrant in the Mithila region, known for its Madhubani Painting which often depicts Krishna.,The celebrations involve singing devotional songs (bhajans), reciting scriptures, and staging 'Ras Leela' or dramatic enactments of scenes from Krishna's life. A special 'puja' is performed at midnight, followed by the breaking of the fast with special 'prasad'.,In some urban areas, the lively tradition of 'Dahi Handi' is also observed, where groups of young men form human pyramids to break an earthen pot filled with curd, symbolizing Krishna's playful childhood antics. The festival is a joyous occasion that brings communities together in a spirit of devotion and celebration, much like Ram Navami.
