Bihar Cabinet Approves New Tourism Policy 2024
In a major boost to the state's tourism sector, the Bihar cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has given its approval to the new Tourism Policy 2024. The policy aims to position Bihar as a major global tourist destination by developing world-class infrastructure and offering attractive incentives for investment in the hospitality sector. This builds on the state's rich history, from the era of Ashoka the Great to modern times. For more on state governance, see Understanding Bihar's Administrative Structure. The new policy focuses on the holistic development of key tourist circuits, including the Buddhist, Ramayana, and Jain circuits. It proposes subsidies and tax exemptions for new hotels, resorts, and other tourism-related projects. Special emphasis will be placed on improving connectivity, sanitation, and safety at tourist spots. Officials stated that the policy is designed to significantly increase the influx of both domestic and international tourists, thereby creating more employment opportunities and boosting the state's economy. The government plans to launch a major promotional campaign to highlight Bihar's rich cultural and historical heritage, such as the sites mentioned in A Weekend in Rajgir, on the global stage.
