Biography

An Indian emperor of the Maurya Dynasty who ruled almost all of the Indian subcontinent.

Contribution

Grandson of Chandragupta Maurya, Ashoka ruled from Pataliputra (Patna). After the Kalinga War, he embraced Buddhism and dedicated his reign to spreading its principles of peace and dharma. His edicts, inscribed on pillars and rocks across the subcontinent, are a testament to his enlightened rule. The Ashoka Chakra in the Indian flag is adopted from his Lion Capital.
