Balushahi: The Flaky Sweet of Bihar
Balushahi is a popular dessert across North India, but it holds a special place in Bihar's culinary map. It is a flaky, deep-fried pastry made from all-purpose flour (maida) and ghee, which is then soaked in a thick sugar syrup. It shares its festive importance with sweets like Laung-Latta and Khaja. The district of Sitamarhi is also known for the Janaki Mandir.,What makes Balushahi unique is its texture. Unlike a soft doughnut, it is slightly firm and has many crisp, flaky layers on the inside. People travel from far and wide to taste this local specialty. It's a rich, decadent sweet that is a must-have during weddings and festive occasions in Bihar.
