The Traditional Attire of Bihar: Simplicity and Elegance
The traditional attire of Bihar is a reflection of its simple, agrarian lifestyle and deep-rooted cultural values. While modern clothing is common in urban areas, traditional garments are still widely worn, especially in rural areas and during festivals and ceremonies. For more on rural life, see @[post:culture-of-chaupal-in-bihar].,For men, the most common traditional outfit is the 'Dhoti-Kurta'. The dhoti is a long piece of unstitched cloth wrapped around the waist and legs, while the kurta is a loose-fitting long shirt. A 'Gamcha' or 'Pagri' (turban) often completes the look, providing protection from the sun.,For women, the Saree is the most elegant and common traditional dress. The style of draping the saree, known as 'Seedha Aanchal', is quite distinct in Bihar. Women also wear 'Salwar-Kameez'. During weddings, as detailed in @[post:bihari-wedding-rituals], the bride often wears a beautiful Banarasi silk saree, while the groom wears a Kurta-Pajama or Sherwani. The simplicity and elegance of Bihari attire speak volumes about its culture.
