Diwali in Bihar: The Festival of Lights with a Local Flavor
Diwali, the festival of lights, is celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm across Bihar, but with its own unique local flavor. The preparations begin days in advance, with homes being cleaned and decorated with diyas (earthen lamps), candles, and colorful rangoli designs. It is followed by other important festivals like Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj.,The main day involves the worship of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha, praying for wealth and prosperity. A unique tradition in some parts of Bihar is 'Hukka-Lukki', where a bundle of jute sticks is lit and swung around, believed to ward off evil spirits and poverty.,The festival is also a time for feasting, with families preparing a variety of sweets like Anarsa and savory dishes. The sky is lit up with fireworks, and the air is filled with a sense of community and celebration. Diwali in Bihar is a beautiful amalgamation of pan-Indian traditions and distinct local customs.
