The Bounsi Mela of Banka
The Bounsi Mela is a famous annual fair held in the Bounsi block of Banka district. The fair is organized on the occasion of Makar Sankranti and is centered around the sacred Mandar Hill, which holds immense significance in Hindu mythology.,According to the Puranas, Mandar Hill was used as the churning rod during the 'Samudra Manthan' (churning of the ocean). The fair begins with pilgrims taking a holy dip in the place:paap-harini-pond] at the foothills, believed to wash away sins. Devotees then climb the hill to offer prayers at the various temples located on it.,The mela is a vibrant showcase of rural life and culture. It features a large market where local handicrafts, agricultural products, and traditional sweets are sold. Cultural events, including @[Bihari Folk Music and dance performances, are organized, and amusement rides provide entertainment for all ages. The Bounsi Mela is a perfect blend of pilgrimage and festivity, similar to the Singheshwar Mela.
