About Samastipur

Samastipur, known as the 'Garden of Mithila', is situated on the banks of the Burhi Gandak river. It is a rich agricultural district and an important railway division.

History

The district was part of the Darbhanga Raj and Tirhut. It has a rich history of freedom struggle. The name is believed to be derived from 'Somastipur'.

Economy

Agriculture is the main occupation, producing maize, tobacco, litchi, and mangoes. It houses the Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University.
